His Excellency Nasser bin Thani Juma Al Hamli

His Excellency Nasser bin Thani Juma Al Hamli has been appointed as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Higher Colleges of Technolgy on 29 September 2018. His Excellency is a Cabinet Member and Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation. Al Hamli holds Master’s degree in Human Resources from University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor’s degree in Manpower Development and Training from the University of Pennsylvania, United States.

Dr. Abdullatif M. AlShamsi
President & CEO, Higher Colleges of Technology

Dr. Abdullatif AlShamsi is the current Vice Chancellor for the Higher Colleges of Technology as per Federal Decree (29) for 2015. He received his Ph.D. from Duke University, USA in 1997 and received his master and Bachelor degree from Boston University. Previously, Dr. AlShamsi was the Managing Director of the Institute of Applied Technology (IAT) for seven years, where he established Applied Technology High Schools, Fatima College for Health Sciences, and Abu Dhabi Polytechnic. He started his career at UAE University as associate professor, then he was appointed an Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research. Later, he founded a University-wide Internship and Work Integrated Learning. Dr. AlShamsi has more than thirty-five research publications in world-class scientific journals and international conferences. His latest publications a series of books published in Arabic titled: The Make of Education.
Dr. Addel Omar Al Ameri
Vice President – Strategy and Future

Dr. Addel holds a PhD in Operations Research and an M.Scs. in Airport Development and Management from Florida Institute of Technology, USA. Dr. Addel is also an Alumnae of the Higher Colleges of Technology. Dr. Addel’s expertise ranges from strategic planning and performance management, Human Capital and Talent Management, Managing Change and Project Management. Over the span of his professional life, Dr. Addel is proud to have established the Strategy and Future Division of the Higher Colleges of Technology which he currently leads. He has also launched the Secondary Technical Schools during his role as General Manager of ADVETI.
Jihad Mohaidat, Ph.D.
Vice President for Education Technologies

Dr. Mohaidat earned his PhD in microelectronics engineering from the City University of New York in 1994. Currently Dr. Mohaidat is Vice President- Education Technologies at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) where he is leading the digital transformation activities at HCT.Prior to HCT, he was managing the strategic investments for the Abu Dhabi education Council represented in key institutions of Higher Education like the Paris Sorbonne University, INSEAD and Mohammed V University.  He as well managed the Global Partnerships Division where the sought after partnerships are those that will lead Abu Dhabi to the highest international standards in education and research.Earlier, Dr. Mohaidat was the chief technologist for the renowned Abu Dhabi initiative “MASDAR” where he spent 4 years screening, selecting and approving renewable energy technologies for investments and manufacturing. In addition, Dr. Mohaidat managed MASDAR’s international research funding Network and scholarship programs.The MASDAR experience was preceded by an 8-year professorship carrier in academia both in the USA and United Arab Emirates University where he held an associate professor rank. Before that Dr. Mohaidat was with the New York state center for advanced technology.Dr. Mohaidat has over 50 publications in many world class peer reviewed journals and conferences.
Alex Zahavich, Ph.D.
Chief Academic Officer (CAO)

Dr. Zahavich is the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) for the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), the UAE’s leading applied education institution, and founder of the Global Applied Education Network (GAEN). He is responsible for implementing HCT 4.0, including the delivery of all of HCT’s academic programs, and applied research and entrepreneurship activities across the UAE. Previously he was the Vice President of Corporate Development, Applied Research and International at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Calgary, Alberta where he was responsible for all of SAIT’s international activity, including international projects, international students and SAIT’s first Global Strategy. He was the founding director of SAIT’s Applied Research and Innovation Services, focused on meeting industry’s needs, which resulted in SAIT becoming the number one ranked college in Canada for applied research in 2013. Alex was also the Vice President of Production and Product Development at Uniplast Films Canada, a global leader in packaging. He has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Plastics Recycling) from McMaster University. Alex is a member of the Board of Directors for Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton (BCS) and the Materials Commission of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF). He has presented numerous papers on a variety of topics including materials and sports engineering, innovation, designed experiments, entrepreneurship and was the lead investigator in the design, construction and safety study of the Whistler Olympic sliding track.
Engineer Abdulla Al Mheiri
Vice President, Shared Services

Eng. Abdulla Al Mheiri holds a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from UAE University and also received ISO approved professional certificates in Health, Safety and the Environment (ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001) from the UK in 2018, Safe Management from the UK in 2017, and project management from the American Institute of Project Management. He is a member of Ras Al Khaimah Court in his capacity as an engineering expert, and also a member of the committee for development of the national strategic plan for education and training in the area of protection from nuclear radiation (Abu Dhabi 2017).In addition to his original position, he is currently Director of General Services system-wide.Prior to joining the Higher Colleges of Technology, he worked for seven years in several positions in the Federal Electricity and Water Authority. He was also employed in the armed forces for seven years. Eng. Abdulla Obtained RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Golden Award for HCT, he Attended the 4th Industrial Revolution Programme & obtained the certificate, Abdulla holds UAE Government accelerators Diploma program and is registered in the “Government Services Experience Programme Diploma”.
