The Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) is the largest higher education institution in the UAE and consequently has the largest number of language learners in the country and in the Gulf region. Started in 1988, the HCT prides itself on the level of education, training and research services offered to its students and to the community. All programmes of study at HCT are taught in English and therefore a strong link between HCT and IELTS has been formed.
HCT has 17 state-of-the-art men’s and women’s campuses throughout the UAE, which are the technologically sophisticated centres of learning for 20,000 national students. It also has close links with a number of certified IELTS Testing Centres located at HCT’s commercial arm, the Centre of Excellence for Applied Research & Training (CERT). HCT is constantly developing and updating information so that the broader community and the HCT student body can access a range of facts, information and knowledge relevant to IELTS including testing, requirements, registration, test taking strategies, individual skills preparation and one-to-one questions.
IELTS is the International English Language Testing System and it is recognised internationally as establishing the English language criterion for entrance to tertiary institutions. Over 1.4 million IELTS tests are given globally each year. It is a standard entry requirement into undergraduate and graduate programmes at the HCT and other national tertiary institutions in the UAE.
IELTS has two test formats: General and Academic.
