Core Modules

Enterprise Systems

This course introduces enterprise systems, including ERP systems. Topics include: system requirements; application architecture; tools and functionality of leading enterprise systems; methodologies for system integration; selection and implementation strategies.

IT Services and Operations

This course discusses frameworks for aligning IT with business goals, with a focus on ITIL v3. Topics include: services & functions; service strategy; service design; service transition; service operation; and continual service improvement.

IT Global Strategies

This course discusses issues in developing, using and managing global information systems.  Topics include: IT development & deployment across organisational and national borders; trans-border data flow; transnational vendor relationships; and integration of diverse technologies.

Research Methodologies

This course enhances students’ research skills by examining different methodologies for applied research. Topics include: research problems & questions; qualitative & quantitative methods; collecting and analysing data; presenting results.

Operations & Enterprise Management

This course discusses the issues related to the operation of production and service sector companies. Topics include: process design, planning & control; profitability & sustainable business practices; interaction between functional areas and the supply chain.

Managing People and Organizations

This course introduces the fundamentals of organisational behaviour in the context of the global business environment. Topics include: organisational culture; group & individual behaviours; leadership & politics; change management; and ethics & CSR.

Innovation and Design Concentration Modules

Information Technology Investment Financial Analysis

This course focuses on applying financial analysis methods to IT investment decisions from operational to strategic levels. Topics include: cost benefit analysis; outsourcing; balanced scorecard and multi-factor scoring; benchmarking; and IT investment portfolio methods.

Technology and Innovation Management

This course introduces the issues in strategic management of innovation within the IT sector.  Topics include: technology & market evolution; determining customer needs; managing employees for sustained innovation; and working with entrepreneurs & the public sector.

Enterprise Architecture and Design

This course focuses on IT-organisation alignment through the integration of business, data & other architectures.  Topics include: enterprise architecture design methodologies; data and process modelling; application integration; and management of implementation.

Entrepreneurship in IT

This course cultivates an entrepreneurial perspective with emphasis on IT-related activities. Topics include: the role of entrepreneurs in the global economy; identifying entrepreneurial opportunities; and building a business case. The final project uses the “Dragon’s Den” format.

Project Management Concentration Modules

Enterprise Project Management

The course focuses on management of technology-based projects at the programme and enterprise levels. Topics include: theory of constraints; critical chain methods; project selection methods; portfolio & program management; and the project management office.

Information Technology Investment Financial Analysis

Software Quality Assurance and Control

This course provides tools & techniques for validation of software and managerial control of software development. Topics include: systems development life cycle; SQA standards; methods for measuring software quality; costs associated with poor quality software.

Change Management in IT

The course discusses the management strategies required to receive full value from investment in new technologies.  Topics include: steps in technology planning; acquisition and implementation; and the barriers to rational innovation processes.

Security Management Concentration Modules

Enterprise Information Security Architecture

This course introduces Enterprise Information Security Architecture as the mode of aligning information security systems with organisational goals. Topics include: information security systems; processes & personnel; security practice; and performance management.

Security Service Management

This course focuses on the design, delivery, and support of consistent and high-quality security services. Topics include: design, delivery, & support of comprehensive security services; and integration with existing infrastructure and practices.

Security Audits, Assessments, and Penetration Tests

This course focuses on the standards for IS auditing and reporting. Topics include: the Code of Professional Ethics for IS auditors; implementation of standards; control practices and objectives; and audit and management guidelines.

Computer Forensics, Investigation, and Response

This course deals with forensic methodologies, techniques and tools, emphasising a hands-on approach. Topics include: incidence response; identifying compromised systems; investigating traces left by complex attacks using the latest exploit methodologies.

Master of Information Technology Dissertation

The capstone project of the programme is a dissertation, where students undertake research on an approved topic. Working with a faculty mentor, students add to the knowledge in their area of interest. Questions emerging from the student’s employment are highly encouraged.
