About the Book

This first collection of articles from the General Education Division at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) illustrates a wide variety of educational practices which have a common aim: to support students at various stages of their studies in the development of Graduate Outcomes.

Complementing specific learning outcomes required for graduation, HCT students are required to meet a set of eight generic “Graduate Outcomes” which are taught across all areas of the curriculum. The cover such areas as self-management and independent learning, global awareness and citizenship, and communication and information technology, and are designed to help ensure HCT graduates can make the fullest contribution to UAE society as they enter the professional world of work.

Featuring chapters by faculty across the HCT system, this volume focuses on work carried out with students at the beginning of their studies on Foundations programs, and with students reaching the end of Diploma programs. All the articles describe teaching and learning practices which are well founded on current educational theory, and can be seen to offer effective ways of promoting good learning. Teachers of many disciplines will find something to interest them between these covers.
