Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering Technology

Program Educational Objectives

  1. To develop in the graduate the ability to undertake the applied design, development, implementation and analysis of civil projects & infrastructure.
  2. To develop in the graduate the ability to utilize the principles of statistics, discrete mathematics and calculus in support of the applied design, development, implementation and analysis of civil projects & infrastructure.
  3. To develop in the graduate the ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary for entry into their chosen vocation.
  4. To develop in the graduate the understanding of the need to comply with health, safety and environmental considerations and regulations

Student Outcomes

  1. Apply the principles of mathematics and science to identify, define, analyze and solve technical problems encountered in civil engineering.
  2. Formulate design solutions to problems or projects that satisfy the appropriate design standards and fulfill the requirements of a given brief in terms of design, construction and operation.
  3. Function competently in a laboratory setting, operating equipment, accurately recording measurements, critically examining the data and interpreting the results.
  4. Contribute to construction project planning and execution with knowledge of appropriate methods of construction, materials and machinery, project planning and quality assurance.
  5. Prepare, assemble, interpret and effectively administer documentation associated with all stages of civil engineering practice including design, procurement, supervision and financial administration.
  6. Apply geometric spatial principles for civil engineering applications in the design and construction phases of a project including graphic representations in hard and electronic form and the use of instruments and techniques used in data collection and project implementation.
  7. Maintain standards of professional practice and conduct, uphold and promote ethical behavior and maintain continued professional development through the application of life‐long learning techniques.
  8. Identify, formulate, and present creative design solutions to engineering problems in the following civil engineering technology disciplines: construction, municipal services, structural, and transportation.
  9. Communicate and function effectively with members of multi‐disciplinary teams from a variety of backgrounds.
  10. Effectively manage and control projects and their resources.
